I bought the Petsafe Bark Control Collar today for my pomeranian as a last resort to keep her tame while walking her. I put the collar on as tight as it could safely go (snug), and was told by the instruction pamphlet to "trim" her hair on the connection points. So, I cut her hair down to the skin on her neck where the connection points sit, and it doesn't work. Before I cut her hair I tested it out and it seemed to work once, where she barked and flinched. Since that one time, it hasn't worked at all, and the battery is fine because it says to test it until you hear a beep, and it beeps fine. Also, it automatically adjusts itself to the dog's bark, so there is no manual adjusting that can be made. Any suggestions? Has anyone else tried this collar and received similar results? I've followed every direction that was given in the book.

I have two pugs and don't know how well an invisible fence will work with them. They are small dogs, but I need to do something.
I live in a very strict neighborhood that won't allow fencing. My dogs have a nice sized yard, but I want them to be able to play with my son and not run away. Pugs are not easily trainable so my real question was has anyone, who owns a pug, used an electric fence with good results?

okay me and my father are buying a house in the middle of nowhere with TONS of wildlife and we have 4 catahula leapord dogs that LOVE to hunt. we dont want them running off too far. (wich they usually do) because they have been injured severely a few times doing that. we wanted to run invisible electronic fencing around like 10 acres so the would have room to run around and hunt a little bit. but we are afraid that if we put it up the will never want to leave the property (we take them to our tree farm on weekdays) if you take the collar off will they leave? and also we are worried that they will run off anyway and ignore the reminder because they have a high pain tollerance. we dont know??? please help us!!! p.s: sorry for making you read all of this i just wanted to explain fully. i want a small dog and my dad is allergic to long hair animals. i want a Chihuahua or yourksure terrior. something like that. i also have 5 brothers. 1 older and 4 yonger. 16,11,9,7,2 are the ages. witch would be best for my family.

I have had my Japanese Chin, Suki for over a year. He is 15 months old. He has been vaccinated for everything under the sun (including Bortadella). We have no other pets and any other dog he has come in contact with (my sisters lab) has also been vaccinated. Tonight Suki came in from outside (our fenced in yard) and it seemed like he could not breathe as if he had aspirated something or he was having an asthma attack. After a few minutes he was fine. I know this breed is prone to trachial collapse...what was this and how can I HELP him to breathe?
